Several couples have had their wedding plans changed after luxury venues canceled all on-site lakeside weddings.
Just before Christmas last year, the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino in Incline Village, Nevada, one of Tahoe’s most popular and luxurious lakeside wedding spots, completed the first phase of a “multi-phase renovation plan”. We will reopen,” he announced. It is scheduled to begin in early March 2025 and continue until May 2027.
The hotel says the south section of the property, which includes “cottages, amenities, Lake Tahoe access, beach, pier, and lakeside restaurant,” will be unavailable to guests due to ongoing construction. For couples who were planning to get married on the resort’s lakefront, that meant receiving the disappointing news that their event had been cancelled.
People reached out to the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe for more information, but did not receive an immediate response.
Pascal Dupuis, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, said in a statement to San Francisco news outlet SFGate that the renovations had been planned for a future date, but the hotel has chosen to bring the schedule forward to late 2024. He said he did.
“As soon as we were made aware, we immediately contacted affected parties, including couples planning weddings at our facilities, and provided as much advance notice as possible,” Dupuis said in a statement. Ta. “The decision about the timing of the planned renovations was not made lightly.”
The manager said hotel staff was working with all affected couples to help them “explore alternatives to the planned event.”
According to SF Gate, Bay Area residents Tanaya Deb and Nischal Gupta are among the many couples struggling to get their wedding plans back on track. The high school sweethearts were planning a 300-person Indian celebration, with guests from all over the world, in what they considered their dream venue.
However, according to SFGate, they received a call from a Hyatt sales representative in mid-December informing them that their wedding, along with other planned lakeside weddings, had been cancelled. Just like that, their months of planning was completely destroyed.
According to SFGate, many of her family members in India have already booked flights and secured travel visas to attend the wedding, and Deb has ordered a custom-made bridal outfit handmade in India. That’s what it means. As of early January, the couple was still trying to put together a plan to save their wedding.
Deb told the show: “We’re in the middle of a really hard time trying to get the wedding going,” adding: “I’m very, very stressed.”

The Tahoe resort owned by tech billionaire and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has had renovation plans for years, but the project continued to be delayed until construction finally resumed in December, according to SFGate. There was an announcement.
But even though they were in weekly contact with Hyatt’s event staff as they prepared for their wedding, Deb and Gupta were unsure about the possibility of their event being disrupted by hotel construction. “I wasn’t even given a hint,” he said.
Another person whose wedding was canceled by a hotel took to Reddit for advice on next steps. In a post on the ‘BigBudgetBrides’ forum, they described the unfortunate situation and wrote, “I think others are being affected too.”
They asked, “What are you going through? What backup plan do you have in place? How much are you getting from Hyatt?” I soon found some sympathetic people who were “in the same position” as me.
“Mine got canceled too,” someone wrote. “I was completely devastated and cried throughout the phone call. I’m sure you’re hurting as well. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. It really sucks.”
Another said: “It’s confusing and morally unbelievable that Hyatt isn’t pushing back on delaying construction. At least 50+ events will be affected.”
According to SFGate, Deb and Gupta have since found a new venue in San Diego and moved their wedding date to give them an additional four months to put the event together. Because everything was so last minute, the couple estimates their Tahoe wedding will cost about 20 percent more than originally planned.
“Right now we’re busy planning the wedding and all these little things keep happening and it’s just heartbreaking,” she told the outlet. “We need to spend another $5,000 here and another $10,000 there to plug these holes.”
And she added: “You have this feeling deep in your heart and deep in your throat that this is not what you wanted.”
