In the heart of the M Hamoshavot neighborhood of Petah Tikva, designer and architect Michael Ohayon has designed an apartment that is a contemporary luxury space. The owners, a married couple whose children are now independent, wanted to renovate their 15-year-old home and create a luxurious vacation atmosphere even when they were at home.
Ohayon said: “I was delighted to realise the potential of the apartment from our first meeting. The homeowners were considering selling the property and investing in a new one, but with my advice, my client ultimately decided against selling the apartment. I knew that a renovation would make the most of the existing area and create a space that replicated the feel of a luxury hotel. I had a very clear vision.”

The apartment was completely renovated, and after demolition, only one pillar and four walls of the house’s foundation remained. Ohayon made significant adjustments to the plumbing, infrastructure, electrical points and air conditioning system. The result is an open, modern and spacious space with straight lines and the dark color palette chosen for the project, creating precise connections that give it a luxurious look. The original kitchen, which was limited in size and shape, has undergone a design revolution.
Ohayon decided to remove the partition wall between the kitchen and the living room, ultimately creating a spacious central space. A unique natural stone imported from Spain was used in the design of the kitchen, and the kitchen cabinets were designed with a woodwork motif that is repeated in the apartment, resulting in a homogenous and unified kitchen that blends in with the rest of the project, making the kitchen both practical and usable. The kitchen is designed down to the last detail, with the highlight being the glass cabinets illuminated with LED lighting, which contribute to creating an elegant and sophisticated look. In the living room of the house, Ohayon decided to create a kind of “square” with furniture carefully selected from “Nisoo Harhitim”. Upgrading the look of the living room, Ohayon selected a round sofa made of an interesting textured fabric. Next to the sofa, there are two armchairs in white and black prints to balance it out. The furniture is arranged around a large table made of genuine leather and the current owner who attracts attention. The living room, like the rest of the apartment, is designed with a modern look and matches the uniform flow of the other spaces of the project. In the bedroom, the master suite was upgraded to a spacious and luxurious suite. The renovation included the addition of a new closet with clear glass cabinets and warm indoor lighting, creating the atmosphere of a luxury clothing boutique.
The shower has been redesigned with a “Galina” type glass partition, ensuring privacy while maintaining the large space created by the design of the master suite. The overall design lines of the apartment include straight, uniform lines and precision tile flooring that gives a clean and precise look. This is where Niso Harhit comes in, specializing in rounded pieces using innovative techniques. The round furniture was just the choice, intended to “break” the linear character of the apartment. The guest area, specially designed for the homeowner’s grandson, was carefully selected in a “mini” size to fit the family’s needs and the style of the rest of the house. The living room walls are decorated with artworks from Ohayon’s collection, in collaboration with Israeli artists. The selected photographs added a personal and unique touch to the living room. Ohayon described the photographs as “fingerprints of the project”, representing his personal and creative stamp on the design process. The guest bathroom was fitted with a wide shower, a two-meter sink, a floating mirror and warm LED lighting, giving the room a sense of luxury along with functionality.
The balcony has been renovated and transformed into a luxurious outdoor living room with a fully equipped kitchen with grill, stove and tabon corner. The high-quality furniture selected by Niso Furniture is specially manufactured and designed for Israel’s changeable weather, allowing the family to use it in all seasons and resistant to damage. The balcony has become an ideal corner for a luxurious stay. To ensure that the balcony is in line with the interior design, Ohayon employed the same design principles that create a harmonious combination of exterior and interior. “In fact, the furniture in the living room and the balcony are almost the same, except for the choice of fabrics to suit the weather conditions.” Design by Michael Ohayon, furniture by Niso Harhitim (Credit: ELAD GONEN)
“For the first time, we decided to create a cover for the wall mirror that is repeated throughout the house, to increase the height and continuity of the space. The delicate leather touches that are repeated in the project are his experiment. He suggested upholstering some of the furniture in genuine leather fabric and the result is stunning.”

Ohayon added: “This is an example of a successful and fruitful collaboration between the interior designer and architect in charge of the project and the suppliers he selected.” Nisso’s ideas added to the warmth and sophistication of the home. “This is not the first time I’ve worked with Nisso, but I really like the way he works and I trust his professional eye and the uncompromising quality of the furniture and accessories he provides for my projects.”
