If your regular garage isn’t big enough for every car, boat, snowmobile or RV, some are turning to luxury storage space.
This includes Brett Bailey, a 64-year-old retired IT manager.
He was even forced to keep his lace Porsche in the trailer outside throughout the brutal Minnesota winter.
However, one March, Bailey discovered that the wheels in the trailer had It’s frozen On the ground.
“For two weeks I’ve been throwing salt there,” he said.
Now he stores two Porsches, Ferraris, Custom Harleys, Dune Buggies and racing trailers in 2,700 square feet of space.
There is also a tequila bar, heated floors, bathrooms with showers, a huge TV, leather sofas, stacks of racing tires and a car lift.
As reported in the Wall Street Journal, these cars’ barns, barn dominiums, toy sheds, garage mahals, or schaises (for shophouses) are becoming a huge hit.
Bruno Silikowski, who has developed the Chanhassen Autoplex and an even larger automotorplex medina while also launching a new complex near Indianapolis: weatherit’s a way for someone to enjoy their passion. ”
He is also in discussions to help launch the project in Texas, Florida. Jersey And New York.
But one homeowner’s dream garage is another backyard nightmare.
More recently, these megaprojects have sparked lawsuits, zoning fights and moratoria.
This includes Victoria, Minnesota. There, dozens of homeowners have signed a petition to reverse city approval for a five-bedroom home with a 6,000-square-foot garage.
It’s large enough space to hold at least 20 cars.
Chris Keppel, 60, a semi-retired real estate agent, said:
“There’s no way to explain it other than to look like you have a tire plus in your backyard.”
The heart of the discussion is whether the garage is independent, either restricting its size based on city rules or attached by a covered passageway.
However, Victoria Mayor Deb McMillan said: “I know my neighbors aren’t happy about it.
Another famous conflict in the Twin City area includes the year’s legal battle over the Waterfront home in Wayzata.
The judge called it the “garage mahal” and has a separation structure of more than 1,600 square feet large enough to hold tour bus style RVs and other vehicles.
“That’s a big deal,” the judge said at the 2022 hearing.
“It’s not like the little squatti garage on the edge of my property where I park my Honda.”
The neighbor sued, claiming that the project violated city code and environmental regulations.
Homeowner’s lawyer Bill Skolnick defends the project, which includes a main house with a car garage and an independent garage for an RV.
“It’s an underground garage. All you can see is this door, by the way, it’s a beautiful door,” Skolnick said. “My people spent $18 million. They didn’t build a shed.”
The plaintiffs lost a fight with the now-announced project but are considering appeal, their lawyer, Jack Perry, said.
