Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized in Luxembourg after being “injured in the line of duty” but continues to work, a spokeswoman said.
Pelosi was taken to the hospital after falling down the stairs, three people familiar with the matter told CNN. Pelosi’s office declined to comment on the lawmaker’s injuries.
U.S. forces then took the former House speaker from Luxembourg to Germany’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a defense official said. The medical center is a major military hospital and has been treating U.S. soldiers injured in combat for many years.
Pelosi, 84, is receiving “excellent” care from doctors and medical professionals, spokeswoman Ian Craiger said early Friday.
“While visiting Luxembourg with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, the Honorable Speaker Nancy Pelosi was injured in the line of duty and was hospitalized for evaluation,” Crager said.
“She is currently receiving excellent care from doctors and medical professionals,” Pelosi said. “I am disappointed that I will not be able to participate in the remaining activities,” Crager said, adding that Pelosi was “looking forward to it.” I will be returning to the US soon. ”
Pelosi’s injury came days after longtime Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell tripped and fell in the Capitol, spraining his wrist and cutting his face.
Mr. McConnell suffered “minor cuts to his face” but was “cleared to resume his schedule,” a spokesperson for the 82-year-old Kentucky Republican said in a statement Tuesday.
