Hello AJ readers!
Although openings slowed due to the holiday week, there were still some big announcements. Here are some highlights and future plans.
CeCe McCasland, whose husband is Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Grant McCasland, will achieve a dream in the new year. Her family, along with two other partner families who will share ownership of inSPIRE Rock, plans to build an indoor rock climbing gym at 6703 Yonkers Avenue. It is tentatively scheduled to open in Lubbock in late summer or early fall 2025.
“It literally feels like a dream come true,” CeCe McCasland said. “We’ve been going to Spring Gym and Cypress Gym for the past few years. I loved them more than any other gym. I went to their gym and thought, ‘This is different.’ Now I understand why, it’s the people, how they live their lives and how they love each other. ”

In a transition from openings to closures, one of the area’s farms known for its eggs is set to close by the end of the year. Alcove Farms, 7919 4th St., will try to have eggs available in store or for pickup through Christmas. The farm cited rising costs as the reason for the closure.
“After much prayer and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close all Alcove Farm operations at the end of 2024,” the statement said. “Producing high-quality, natural products using regenerative farming methods is a labor of love, but rising costs are making it increasingly difficult to sustain.”
