Hello AJ readers!
This week had several highlights, including a big update on Leprino Foods and a fascinating feature on a recently opened business.
The business summary for September was announced on Monday. There were more than 12 business announcements, including 7 starts, 2 closures, and 5 rumor confirmations. This is down from 22 cases in September 2023.

On Thursday, I visited the recently opened shop, Bread & Jam at Chicago Station, 5507 126th St., #211. The shop is a partnership between Kelle Barnard of Kelle B Jammin’ and Todd Hassell of The Bread & The Bees, who share the goal of being the region’s fresh, local bakery.
This weekend brought a long-awaited update on Leprino Foods Company’s plant in East Lubbock. As of 2021, the facility was scheduled to begin full operations at the end of 2024. This has been postponed and officials have confirmed a new schedule. Phase 1 is expected to begin in early 2025, with full operation expected in 2026.
I asked Leprino’s communications representatives several questions, including the potential for increased traffic, the company’s involvement in the community, and the hiring of new facilities. These answers are presented in two articles published this weekend. One is a free article about employment (including wages), and the other is a subscriber-only article that details exactly what Leprino offers, when and where.

Recent openings include 806 Family Therapy, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 14, and Tech Café, 6810 Milwaukee Ave., Suite 100, on Wednesdays. The Tech Café is run by the same team as the previous location on 50th Street, which closed at the end of 2023.
According to Erin Wilson, 806 Family Therapy is run by several Texas Tech University alumni who “serve as couples, marriage, and family therapists to address the relationship and mental health needs of our community. He started this business to fulfill his needs. The business is accepting new customers and has launched a website, 806familytherapy.com.
Yesway, which owns Allsup’s, confirmed that another location is under construction at 9704 U.S. Highway 87.
Going into next week, I’m hoping to check out a couple of farms and get an update on some that are scheduled to open in October.
As always, thanks for reading and supporting AJ.
