Lowell Observatory has announced the appointment of Dr. Amanda Bosch as its new executive director, replacing Dr. Jeff Hall, who has led the observatory for 14 years. Mr. Bosch is scheduled to assume his new role on November 8th. Lowell representatives say she brings extensive experience in planetary science research, education and operational leadership, positioning Lowell for continued growth and scientific innovation.
Mr. Bosch’s leadership comes at a pivotal time for the observatory as it prepares for the grand opening of the world-class Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center on Saturday, November 16th. The Astronomy Discovery Center represents a new era for Lowell, according to a news release. , offers immersive experiences and forward-thinking exhibits that bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and public engagement. As part of the celebration, Dr. Bosch will welcome community members and outline next plans for the observatory.

She first joined Lowell Observatory in 1994 and has contributed to a variety of groundbreaking research efforts, including the co-discovery of Pluto’s atmosphere. She also co-founded the Lowell Observatory’s Native American Astronomy Assistance Program in 1995, which remains in place today. She held several positions at the observatory, including operations manager, project director for the Astronomy Discovery Center, and chief operating officer.
