Carton explains to her family later in the episode, and she leaves him due to their different views on social issues.
She said she disagreed with several views supported by the Metzenga church and told her family she was watching an online sermon that preached “traditional” views on sexual identity.
“He doesn’t have much to say about it,” Carton said, saying “I want someone to think about” these issues, such as “equality, religion, vaccines,” but it’s unclear what Metzenga’s views on vaccines are.
In an earlier exchange of the season, Carton told Metzenga that her sister is gay. Metzenga said “there is absolutely no discomfort in that community.”
Carton’s decision to leave Metzenga has gone viral on social media, claiming that Metzenga “dodged the bullet” because of Carton’s “awakening” politics.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham posted: “He dodged the bullet,” replied, “He did the bullet.”

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro said he was “completely against” Carton’s politics, but criticised Metzenga for not choosing to leave Carton previously, saying it was “right” to leave him on the altar. “People are going to say, ‘Well, she’s intolerant.’ No, she’s actually smarter than him. He should have cancelled this early,” Shapiro said. Many posts in support of Carton went viral, including one that has won a preference for 300,000 people criticizing Metzenga, who is allegedly “has no opinion about the world around him.” Another poster won Carton, a carton nurse who won nearly 400,000 favorites. “She dodged the bullet, not him,” the most favourite response to the widely seen video of their breakup state.

Are Sarah Carton and Ben Metzenga still the same?
No, they’re not the same anymore, but Carton says they tried to get it to work after the finale breakup. After Carton refused Metzenga’s suggestion, he told her at the altar, where she was still with her and wanted it to work. Carton told Entertainment Weekly that she and Metzenga had lived together for about a week or two after filming the finale, but “he actually dropped me.” She said Metzenga shared his place to find my friends and stopped communicating more frequently. “Love Is Blind” faced a similar controversy in 2022 when contestant Bartise Bowden rejected Nancy Rodriguez at the altar at the end of the show’s third season. Rodriguez said that Borden “blind” her at the altar, but one of the rifts in the relationship shown on camera was a different view of abortion. Borden said he normally opposes abortion and believes that if a woman is not born into a financially stable situation, then she can get “one pass.” However, Rodriguez has supported abortion rights and told him that several people believe it cannot be applied to the number they are allowed to. Rodriguez later told Netflix’s Tudum that he believed he used the abortion view on her, claiming that Borden used the abortion view on her by raising the topic when he met his parents, and that he raised it to excuse why he didn’t want to be with her.
