NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Small Business Saturday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year for local merchants in Western New York. Stores along Webster Street in North Tonawanda are hoping to cash in on this shopping holiday.
“We’re all local. We put money back into our neighborhoods and local communities. That’s what small businesses generally do,” said Suzanne, who owns Gleam and Glimmer Stained Glass Studio. Todaro says.
Mr. Todaro is also secretary of the Downtown Merchants Association. She said downtown North Tonawanda is seeing a lot of progress and business growth.
“In the last few years, we’ve added a lot of new retail on the street, and a lot of those people have been waiting a long time for people to come here,” she said. “This area is especially good because of the restaurants, the Riviera (theatre) and the general support of the city.”
Maria Andres, owner of the boutique Astor and Lily’s, waited 10 years before opening her store on the street.
“We just wanted to make sure we helped North Tonawanda thrive,” Andres said.
The business has just celebrated its one-year anniversary.
“North Tonawanda is really developing, especially Webster Street,” Andres said. “We want people to understand that it’s really important to shop local and small. It’s great to do your Christmas shopping in the big stores, but these Remember, your store will be supporting your local community.”
There’s another chance to snag great deals and shop local in North Tonawanda next weekend, Dec. 7, during the Lumber City Winter Walk and Tree Lighting Ceremony.
