Liverpool were very close to signing Anthony Gordon this summer.
In order to meet Premier League spending rules, Newcastle sold Joe Gomez in a phantom swap deal and looked to offload a winger.
An agreement has been reached between the two clubs and both players expressed their delight at the transfer while they are currently representing England at Euro 2024.

Initial negotiations were not very successful as Liverpool did not meet the asking price of £100m. Newcastle’s idea to bring in Jarrell Quansah also didn’t work out, but a compromise was found.
Liverpool will sell Gomez to Newcastle for £45m before buying the Scouser for £75m. This would allow the Magpies to sign top players while securing the necessary funds. That would give the Reds a much easier deal financially.
But things fell apart. Newcastle found a better solution to their problem by releasing two different players for big money after scheduling Gordon’s medical care. In this way, they could retain a winger they never wanted to let go.
According to Telegraph Sport, when Newcastle informed Gordon in June that they would not sell him back, they said they would reward his excellent performance last season with a lucrative long-term deal.
But people close to the player say progress has been slow. As things stand, Mr. Gordon feels that the terms offered do not reflect his true worth.
Although things are progressing, there are still rumors of a move to Anfield. Liverpool have plenty of talent on the left, but how often can they sign top homegrown talent?
Due to Gordon’s disappointment, he will not play in EURO 2024
Gordon was a Red Army player as a boy and was keen to move to Anfield, but news of the breakdown in negotiations means he will not be able to play in this summer’s Euros.
There is no point in pretending otherwise, the report added. Gordon was keen on a move to his boyhood club in the summer and even told his team-mates during his spell with England that a move would also happen.
Former England manager Gareth Southgate is well aware that the player was distracted by talk, and Telegraph Sport claims this is one of the reasons why the player was not involved more in the Euros. I understand that it is. Gordon came on as a substitute for a few minutes in the group stage, but did not play after that.
