With several of President Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees scheduled for confirmation hearings in the Senate this week, the president-elect on Saturday nominated three more people to deputy positions at the Interior, Transportation, and Environmental Protection Agency.
Here’s what you need to know about the picks.
EPA Deputy Administrator David Fotouh: At the end of President Trump’s first term, Fotooh served as EPA’s acting general counsel after working there for all four years. According to his LinkedIn page, he is currently a partner at the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
President Trump selected former New York State Representative Lee Zeldin to lead the agency. If confirmed, one of his first tasks will likely be to begin the process of overturning some of the Biden EPA’s biggest climate rules.
Deputy Secretary of the Interior Catherine McGregor: McGregor previously held this position during the final year of President Trump’s first term. She worked within the department for all four years of her tenure, according to her LinkedIn page. McGregor currently serves as vice president of environmental services at renewable energy company NextEra Energy.
President Trump has nominated North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum to be Secretary of the Interior. This agency oversees natural resources, public lands, and Indian affairs.
Deputy Secretary of Transportation Stephen Bradbury: Mr. Bradbury served as general counsel for the Department of Transportation during the Trump administration. During his confirmation hearing for the role, the late Sen. John McCain refused to endorse Bradbury, citing his support for torture during the George W. Bush administration.
President Trump has nominated Sean Duffy, a former congressman and recent co-host on FOX Business, to be Secretary of Transportation. The ministry oversees infrastructure, and if Duffy were confirmed, it would carry over a host of aviation safety-related issues and the threat of airline union strikes.
