Harris’ campaign says it is entering a more aggressive phase as it seeks to build on the momentum generated by the presidential debate and mobilize voters in key battleground states.
Vice President Kamala Harris is kicking off her “New Progress” tour of battleground states today, starting with two rallies in Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C. On Friday, she’ll hold events in Johnstown and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, a city she has repeatedly said she needs to win the November election.
“We’re still behind in this race. It’s close. We have to win Pennsylvania and we will win,” Harris told supporters gathered at a viewing party after the debate in Philadelphia.
The campaign is expected to launch new TV and digital ads featuring key moments from the debate. In the day after Ms. Harris’ performance, staffers spent hours sifting through debate footage to identify key moments that highlighted key issues among voters and offered a clear contrast to Mr. Trump.
The campaign yesterday unveiled its first digital ad featuring snippets of Harris’ performance. Titled “Leadership,” the ad aims to reinforce Harris’ message of “blazing a new trail” and spotlight her determination to bring “a sense of optimism about what we can do,” according to a campaign press release.
More media appearances: VP Harris is expected to make more media appearances in the coming days, including in local markets throughout battleground states. This comes amid growing criticism for not giving more interviews. Next week, VP Harris will also participate in a roundtable with journalists at the National Association of Black Journalists. VP Harris rescheduled her speech after a prior commitment prevented her from attending the NAACP’s annual conference.
With less than two months until Election Day, Harris’ key surrogates will also have a busy campaign schedule. Today and tomorrow, Governor Tim Walz will be campaigning in Michigan and Wisconsin, while Lt. Governor Doug Emhoff will be attending events in Arizona and Nevada. First Lady of Minnesota Gwen Walz will be campaigning in Manchester, New Hampshire and Maine, where she will headline a Harris-Waltz Educators Association event and visit a phone bank. The “New Way Forward” tour will also include surrogate events targeting key voter groups today.
