In reading Tuesday’s call between the US and Russian presidents, the Kremlin thanked and praised his “noble goal” to end the conflict.
Putin and his brave negotiators on his side are well aware of the power of Washington’s flattery.
However, there is no agreement yet on Trump’s central proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. The Kremlin shows that verification of the ceasefire is a matter of Moscow, stopping Ukraine’s “forced mobilization” and preventing Ukrainian forces from halting in the fight against Liam.
There was a Kremlin agreement on the US proposal to temporarily suspend attacks on energy infrastructure. Putin is said to have “sudden orders to respond to the Russian army.”
But that might be welcomed by Ukrainians who saw the power grid bewildered by the Kremlin bombardment, but it rarely stops the crushing Russian attack in the combat zone.
Attacks on Russian energy infrastructure such as oil refineries are one of the most successful Ukrainian tactics.
In reality, the Kremlin does not seem to offer any compromise on the main war objectives. Not only does it highlight the “preparation” for a long-term peace reconciliation, it also highlights the “absolute need to eliminate the root cause of the crisis,” which the Kremlin has been variously identified as a threat to the expansion of NATO as a sign as the territory of Proverb in the Russian province.
Russian official Kiril Dmitriev welcomed Trump Putin’s call as “historic” and “epic,” and posted on X that “the world has become a safer place.”
But as always, the Devil is in detail. And beyond the broad acceptance of the idea of a negotiated settlement, there is still a need to bring up many details before a ceasefire is agreed, let alone a permanent peace agreement.
