Tuesday, November 26, 2024Plans for Maple Grove’s new flagship Lifetime Club also include a relatively new concept: luxury apartments.
Lifetime is proposing to build nearly 400 apartment complexes on land west of Maple Grove Hospital as part of a development plan called Minnesota Health Village.
According to Lifetime representatives, the concept of building apartments next to the athletic club began in 2022 under the Lifetime Living brand. Approximately 20% of members live in rented accommodation of their own choice and prefer to live close to a sports club.
“What we’re looking at is an opportunity to connect these people with a living environment that’s closer to the club,” John Griffith, Life Time’s senior vice president of real estate and development, said at Monday’s Planning Commission meeting. ” he said. “It facilitates club trips, which typically occur three to five times a week.”
Mr Griffiths said Lifetime Living’s apartments average rents about 20 per cent above market rate because of the amenities. They also said their apartment complex has seen a drop in turnover.
“They can afford to buy single-family homes and condos and things like that, but they just prefer to rent,” Griffith said.
The new Athletic Club will be up to 120,000 square feet and feature a variety of amenities including a sauna and steam room, salon and spa, Life Café, outdoor pool deck with both a lap pool and leisure pool, and an outdoor pickleball court. We are prepared.
Earlier this month, the city of Maple Grove announced an agreement with Lifetime to purchase 17.5 acres of land for a new athletic club and other development. Instead, the city will acquire the existing Lifetime property next door to the Maple Grove Community Center. The city plans to use Lifetime’s assets for further expansion of the community center.
Further details regarding the new Lifetime Club and Apartments are expected to be announced in January or February.
“That’s when all the details of this plan will be finalized,” said Joe Hogeboom, the city’s community economic development director.
The Maple Grove City Council is scheduled to vote on Lifetime’s concept phase plan at its Monday, Dec. 1, meeting. Further details can be found on page 15 of the Planning Commission’s packet.
