Le Pen herself rejected the far right term as she attempts to normalize the national rally party and strengthen election opportunities. She is a fierce opposition to immigration and is one of Europe’s most famous far-right politicians.
Bruce pointed to Vice President J.D. Vance’s fiery speech at the Munich Security Conference in February.
“We have to do more as West than simply talking about democratic values. We have to live out those,” she said, paraphrasing Vance’s statement. Vance has repeatedly refused to admit that Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.
In his Munich speech, Vance criticized Europe’s “old, entrenched interests” in order to suppress alternative perspectives and destroy the possibility of outsiders winning elections, because he “hides behind ugly Soviet-era words like “misinformation” and “disinformation.”
“We support and agree or disagree with the right of all to offer their views in the public square,” Bruce parroted Vance.
Le Pen’s beliefs drew a source of support from other far-right figures, including Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, Italian league party boss Matteo Salvini and Dutch populist Gaerto Weiders.
Le Pen was still able to sue her sentence. If her bid fails, she will face four years in prison. Two of them will be suspended and two will be served under house arrest.
