STORRS, Conn. – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the recipients of the 2023-24 BIG EAST Sports Excellence Awards, which recognize academic and athletic achievements and service to the community.
Of the 22 overall winners, University of Connecticut graduate student Landyn White (Alpharetta, Ga.) was named the winner in the women’s lacrosse category. White recorded a 3.650 grade point average while studying allied health studies.
The Athletic Excellence Award is presented to one student-athlete from each BIG EAST sponsored sport based on academic achievement, athletic honors and performance, and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have achieved academic success during their junior year and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 are eligible. Recipients are selected by the BIG EAST Faculty-Athletics Representative Council.
White is a two-time BIG EAST Sports Excellence Award winner, receiving the award in the 2021-2022 season. In the 2023-2024 season, he was selected to the All-BIG-EAST First Team. Additionally, White has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year for three consecutive seasons, the most selections since the award was introduced in 2015. As a captain in 2024, White recorded 174 saves during the season, including a season-high 18 in a win against Denver on March 24.
White was named a USA Lacrosse All-American honorable mention and was selected to the IWLCA Northeast Region Second Team and the Senior All-Star Game in 2024. White, along with 11 other Huskies, was named to the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor List.
White started all 18 games at goalie, posting a .490 save percentage and recording double-digit saves in seven games.
White recorded 771 saves and 49 wins as a member of the Huskies, both team records.
