When the Turtle Mountain Community High School Braves visited Des Lux Burlington High School to take on the host Lakers in a rare Monday night volleyball match, the action on the court was as fast-paced as the rain pattering outside the building.
The Lakers won 25-11 and the closest game 25-18, while the home team won their third straight game 25-13.
The Lakers and Braves were on pace point-for-point from the start of each frame. In an evenly matched game, the Braves fought their way up front with solid net play.
Neither team had an offensive advantage. The home team started to extend their lead midway through each frame, widening their lead each session with a combination of aces and return volleys. Both the home team and the visitors showed a tenacious volleying attitude.
De Lux Burlington freshman Piper Feller, along with juniors Logen Isters and Micah Feiken, led the Lakers in scoring with Feller and Isters scoring 8 points and Feiken scoring 5. Feiken also recorded two aces and two blocks.
Senior Kaylee Warner had 22 assists, one block and 14 digs in the game. Feller added eight digs and junior Hope Warren also contributed with a block at net in the win.
The Lakers are in Region 6, District 12, with South Prairie Max leading the way at 9-1 and Des Lux Burlington between Our Redeemers and Bishop Ryan at the top of the standings. The Lakers (7-3) will play at home against Berthold on Thursday.
