LAKE MARY, Fla. – People in the city of Lake Mary and throughout Central Florida are in the mix to celebrate the Lake Mary Little League All-Stars on Saturday.
The city of Lake Mary is currently planning a “once in a lifetime” celebration for its team after defeating Chinese Taipei, 2-1, on Sunday for the Little League World Series title.
John Gryglewicz lives in Longwood. He and his friends from Port Orange were ecstatic about the Lake Mary Little League team’s big win.
“I think it’s amazing on a world level that they’ve achieved this status. It’s unbelievable,” Gryglewicz said, “not just for the players but for the coaches.”
Gryglewicz said he and his friends plan to go to Lake Mary for a big celebration on Saturday.
“They’re our Little League rock stars now,” Gryglewicz said.
Josh Thacker, who was visiting the Sunshine State from Ohio, was aware of the big win and was proud of his team.
“Their comeback was amazing,” Tucker said. “Being from Ohio, I love baseball. I played baseball, so I don’t care who I root for, but I especially want to root for America.”
4th Street Bar and Grill hosted several watch parties during the Little League World Series, and manager Mike Period said they would open at 10 a.m. instead of the usual 11 a.m.
“We’re taking reservations now, so be prepared,” Period said.
Period said restaurant deliveries continue to increase as Lake Mary moves forward.
“We were ready the whole time,” Period said. “Every time they won, we just kept on ordering, ordering, ordering.”
Plans for this Saturday’s celebration were announced last Friday, but that was before Lake Mary captured the U.S. championship title and ultimately won the Little League World Series.
The Lake Mary Parks and Recreation Department said they had been planning the celebration for weeks, but made additional changes to accommodate a larger crowd due to the Little League World Series victory.
We will update this article with more details and changes to this weekend’s celebrations as information becomes available.
