Established by the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, the LA84 Foundation serves Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.
Grants to community- and school-based organizations focused on play equity will help advance the Foundation’s goal of ensuring equal access to sports, play, and exercise programs in marginalized communities. The funding includes four grants for youth living with disabilities, providing access to multiple sports such as basketball, tennis, and soccer, as well as instructional and recreational swimming. Additionally, a large grant (amount not disclosed) will support the development of year-round youth sports leagues for Native American tribes in Southern California.
“The LA84 Foundation grant supports our mission to unite more than 26 Native American tribes in Southern California through structured athletic programs, while providing needed resources and strengthening cultural, leadership, and spiritual It helps develop a strong foundation in health,” said an Inter-Tribal Sports executive.
