The King appeared amused as he laughed at British comedian Matt Ford’s impression of President-elect Donald Trump on stage at the Royal Variety Performance.
Charles followed in the footsteps of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and attended his first show at London’s Royal Albert Hall as patron of the Royal Variety Charity.

In a statement from Buckingham Palace, he said: “The important work of charities in supporting people who have fallen ill, been in an accident or suffered hardship remains as vital as ever. “A huge amount of work has gone into putting on this year’s show. We would like to thank everyone who spent their time with us and we hope everyone has an enjoyable evening.”
In this performance, political cartoonist Forde echoed Trump’s reiteration during a presidential debate with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris earlier this year. He cited unsubstantiated claims that

The King was seen laughing at a joke from the Royal Box. Prince Charles attended the event without the Queen, but insisted “the show must go on” after the Queen pulled out of Friday night’s performance after doctors advised her to prioritize rest.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Following a recent chest infection, the Queen continues to have post-viral symptoms and doctors have advised Her Majesty to ensure that Her Majesty is well rested after a busy week of engagement. I advised that they should be prioritized.”
“We regret to inform you that she has declined to attend tonight’s Royal Variety Performance. His Majesty will attend as scheduled.”
A royal source said the Queen was “understandably absent from the evening’s entertainment and has sincerely apologized to everyone involved, but strongly believes that the show must go on.” Ta.

The Royal Variety Performance will be broadcast on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player in December.
