Trump infuriated the Arab world by saying that Palestinians would not be able to return to their homes under his suggestion to redevelop the enclave that was devastated by Israeli attacks.
Arbitrary and permanent forced relocation of the population is considered a crime under the Geneva Convention.

King Abdullah later said that Jordan’s “still position” against the expulsion of Palestinians in Gaza and repeatedly in the West Bank of the occupation, which borders his country.
“This is a unified Arab position,” he said in a Twitter/X post. “Rebuilding Gaza without stoking the Palestinians and dealing with the dire humanitarian situation should be a priority for everyone.”
Despite the views of his Jordanian counterparts, Trump said Jordan and Egypt would ultimately agree to accommodate displaced people in Gaza. Both countries rely on Washington for economic and military aid.
“I think there are parcels of land in Jordan, I think there are parcels of land in Egypt,” Trump said. “We may be somewhere else, but when we finish the talk, I think there’s a place where they can live very happy and very safe.”
Trump, who suggested that he could consider withholding tax assistance to Jordan, said he was not using support as a threat.
“We donate a lot of money to Jordan and Egypt, but I don’t need to threaten it. I think we’re on top of it,” Trump said.

At one point, Trump appeared to have urged King Abdullah to say he would take the Palestinians from Gaza. The king said he would do the best thing for his country, but Jordan said he would take 2,000 sick children from Gaza for treatment, an offer Trump praised.
“The key is how to make this work in a good way for everyone,” he said.
At the end of Tuesday, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said it had planned to “present a comprehensive vision for reconstruction” of the Gaza Strip, which ensures that the Palestinians remain on their land.
Egypt said it would “want to work together” with the Trump administration on the issue with the goal of “reaching a fair settlement in the Palestinian cause.”
The plan said it would provide for the reconstruction of Gaza “in a clear and crucial way that ensures that the Palestinians stay on their lands and stay in line with the legitimate and legal rights of this person.”
Jordan already has over 2 million Palestinian refugees living in the population of its population, and its status and number provide a source of uncertainty about the country’s leadership.
