Khalil Mack officially becomes a free agent with a shining NFL career when a new league year begins on March 12th. Mack hasn’t reached the peak of his strength, but five All-Pros still could make a difference with Edge, and last year he recorded a career 17-quarterback takedown, recording six sacks last year for Los Angeles claimants.
The 34-year-old Starpass Rush must be a popular guy when free agency begins. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday that rumors linking Mac to NFC teams for nearly two weeks before the fun began, linking rumors of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears to two NFC teams.
“The team agrees that Edge Rusher Halil Mac put out the right last season,” Fowler wrote.
The Bears ranked 16th in total sacks last season, while the Bucks ranked seventh. Therefore, neither team desperately needs pass rush help. However, both franchises have high quality edge pieces set to hit free agency in March. Tampa Bay could lose one or both of Lavonte David and Jotryon Show Inka. Chicago cut DeMarcus Walker last week and may see Darrell Taylor Walk.
Mac would certainly help offset such losses, even if he can’t terrorize the QB himself. The team may also be interested in the veteran mentorship he can bring to the table. It will be interesting to see where Mac ends.
