Kevin Costner shared his view that American politics should not affect the way Hollywood films are made.

“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” was released in theaters last August, but was disappointed at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics. On Friday, Costner premiered his second edition at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, but no wider theatrical release in the US has been announced.

In an interview with Forbes in February 2024, Costner, who previously directed the films Dance with Wolves, Open Range and The Postman, explained his approach to filmmaking.
“I don’t play in the fanbase as much as I play to people who are willing to go to the theatre and take them to places they don’t imagine,” he said. “I don’t ignore the fanbase on any level, but when it comes to the stories I want to share, I don’t live up to anyone else’s ideas other than me.”
The two-time Academy Award winner admitted that he didn’t enjoy directing the film, saying, “I’ll kill me.”
