After two very close and record-breaking fights, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano cut off their third time on July 11th for Taylor’s uncontroversial Super Lightweight Championship, making headlines for historic all-women boxing cards at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Promoted by Jake Paul’s most valuable promotion, the event will be streamed live on Netflix.
“It’s fitting that during Women’s History Month, on an all-women’s card, this must-see trilogy can be published between two of the greatest female athletes of all time,” Jake Paul told ESPN.
“Unlike many newcomers and older incumbents in boxing, the MVP defends and always defends women as equals with men. “This all-women card is not only a testament to how far the sport has come, but it’s the beginning of an even bigger push from the MVP, raising the next generation of female fighters.”
The two previous encounters between Taylor and Serrano were events that made history. Their first meeting took place on April 30, 2022, and it was the first time a woman had found a fight card at Madison Square Garden. Taylor won a close decision in front of a sold-out crowd. The rematch served as a major supporter of Paul’s blockbuster showdown with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on November 15th, 2024.
Their rematch was streamed on Netflix, shattering an average audience of 74 million worldwide, becoming the most viewed women’s sporting event in US history and was chosen by ESPN for the 2024 Women’s Fight.
“After we finished the fight on November 15th, Netflix came to us and said they wanted to do more with the most valuable promotion,” Bidanian told ESPN. “One thing that was absolutely clear about them was that they wanted to see this trilogy and we came back to them with the idea of doing all women’s events that really uplift women in sports on the platform with over 300 million global subscribers. They bought it right away.”
Like Paul Tyson, Netflix will stream its blockbuster event on Friday nights. The inns for all women will be announced at a later date.
“Madison Square Garden was home to the biggest boxing matches in history, including the Battle of the Century and the 2022 match between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.” “We are proud to bring these extraordinary athletes back to the “most famous arena in the world” and return to a historic moment with the first All-Mail professional boxing card ever. ”
Fighting from Ireland Taylor, 38, ranks second on ESPN’s pound-to-pound list, and is indisputable in two weight classes. After starting her professional career 22-0, she moved to Super Lightweight in May 2023, receiving her first loss when she lost to then-champion Chantelle Cameron.
“I’m 2-0 against Amanda, but that’s clearly a very special rivalry that offers every time I step into the ring, so I think it’s right that we have a trilogy,” said Taylor (24-1, 6 KOS). “The atmosphere of the first fight there was amazing and I’m sure this time it won’t make a difference.”
Fighting from Puerto Rico, 36-year-old Serrano ranks third on ESPN’s pound pound list. She holds the Guinness World Records for most Boxing World Championships, won by women who hold nine major world titles in seven different weight classes. Since suffering a loss in the decision in 2012, Serrano has only come two losses against Taylor, making it 33-2-1. However, the competitive nature of these losses ensured a third fight.
“I have promised my fans that they’ll see this trilogy, and I’m very grateful that we’ll complete the journey that everything started – at Madison Square Garden, live on Netflix for the world to see,” said Serrano (47-3-1, 31 Kos).
The first two matches are the 10-2 minute round, the standard for women’s boxing, and the third fight is the same. However, Serrano pushed the 12-3-minute round open for his third fight, equaling the men’s championship fight. According to Serrano, the two fighters were unable to reach a deal in 12 three rounds in the third fight.
“I’m disappointed that Katie Taylor didn’t follow her words and I’m making three-thirds of rounds on par with the guys,” Serrano said. “This was a record payday for both of us and we owed it to our fans to honor the handshake deal we made. She didn’t. But every time we share the ring, it’s war and I know I’ll still be the best because Friday, July 11th will eventually get ‘I’m worthy’. ”
