WASHINGTON — White House director of political strategy and communications Emmy Lewis has been promoted to senior adviser, joining a small circle of top aides helping Mr. Biden through the final four months of his term.
The move makes Lewis the youngest person to hold that title under the Biden administration, according to a senior administration official who first provided details to NBC News.
In his new role, Lewis will continue to work on all aspects of politics in the run-up to the general election in November. Because Mr. Biden is no longer the nominee, Mr. Lewis and other senior advisers will work closely over the next 30 days to decide where and how to use the president in battleground states, the official said. .
She will also continue to coordinate with the Cabinet on political travel and engagement undertaken in the final spurt.
Lewis has overseen Biden’s White House political team since he took office in 2021. Prior to that, he served as a political strategist for former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Harris.
She will play a key role in the White House’s mid-term 2022 strategy, working closely with the Democratic National Committee and the Harris campaign to ensure that the Biden administration and political organizations are as aligned as possible.
