Celebrity chef. Humanitarian. Author. TV personality. And now, for some reason, hotelier. Jose Andres’ hospitality company announced today that it will build a luxury hotel in Georgetown in 2027 called The Bazaar House by Jose Andres.
According to a press release, the hotel will feature 67 rooms, a members-only private club, event space, a spacious wellness center, and multiple bars and restaurants from the Jose Andres Group. While specific food and beverage concepts have yet to be announced, the penthouse club, the Bazaar Club, will offer members-only benefits and venues, as well as a signature restaurant with views of George Town.
The hotel is a partnership with So Equities, a global development firm that also owns the Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons. The developer spent seven years winning local approvals for the project at 3000 M St., NW.
Jose Andres Group CEO Sam Bakhchandepur told The Washington Post last spring that the company’s future growth would be focused on hotels, following an infusion of expansion capital from Rock Creek, an investment firm with more than $17 billion in assets. Bakhchandepur was previously CEO of a hotel management company, and he and Andres first met while working on the development of the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, where Andres opened the first Bazaar.
The Jose Andres Group currently operates around 40 restaurants and bars in the U.S. and abroad, with some recent hotel deals under its belt.
“The essence of a hotel is the restaurant and the bar and the food and drink experience,” Bakhchandepur told The Washingtonian. “In the old days, it was the rooms.”
