Joey Chestnut did more than beat longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi in a hot dog eating contest on Monday.
The American star also broke his own world record in the Netflix competition “Unfinished Beef.”
Chestnut consumed 83 hot dogs and buns in the 10-minute contest, beating the previous world record of 76 hot dogs, a feat made all the more impressive given the contest’s new rules, including a ban on dipping the hot dogs in water.
The record-breaking hot dog slid down Chestnut’s throat with 70 seconds left to eat.
Chestnut set the previous record in 2021 at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
“I’ve been trying to eat 80 hot dogs for years, but I never would have done it without Kobayashi,” Chestnut said after the contest. “He inspires me. We haven’t always been kind to each other, but I love how we push each other to be our best.”
Kobayashi ate 66 hot dogs during the Netflix event, breaking his own previous record of 64½.
