True Brvnd, the popular hat and streetwear brand co-owned by former JMU quarterback Ben DiNucci, is creating a line of JMU-themed hats.
In an exclusive interview with JMU Sports News, DiNucci said the hats are “in production” and he expects them to be available by the end of October “at the latest.”
The free agent NFL quarterback said he will share official details about the hat purchase on social media once they are known. The design of JMU’s hat has not yet been made public.
What is True Brvnd?
DiNucci said he frequently gets questions and words of support from JMU fans about True Branding, but for those unfamiliar with the company and its hats, they’ve seen a surge in popularity in recent years. The Dallas-based company is veteran-owned and operated and was founded in 2020. Early hats featured the word “DALLAS” written upside down as a nod to the “upside-down” days of the pandemic.
DiNucci helped drive the brand’s popularity by spreading word of the hats among his teammates while playing for the Dallas Cowboys. Some of the franchise’s most famous players, including CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott, have worn True Branding hats, and the company has more than 100,000 followers on Instagram. NBA players Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have also worn the hats, and musician Post Malone has performed in one.
The former seventh-round draft pick also hinted at a possible collaboration between JMU and True Bloomberg later in 2023 on social media.
“Anyone want True Brvnd x JMU in 2024?” DiNucci wrote on Twitter. The post has been viewed over 35,000 times, with JMU fans enthusiastically replying that they would love to see a collaboration. Dukes fans won’t have to wait too long for the JMU hats to hit the market, but if the company’s other hat sales are any indication, they could sell out quickly.
True Brvnd also carries college-themed hats from several Texas universities, including SMU, TCU and Rice University.
