The Jets have completed interviews with Thomas Dimitroff for the vacant general manager position, the team announced Monday.
Dimitrov, 58, will be the first candidate to interview with the Jets since they fired Joe Douglas on Nov. 19.
Dimitrov was the Patriots’ director of college scouting from 2003 to 2007 and the Falcons’ general manager from 2008 to 2020. Dimitrov, a 28-year NFL veteran, was named NFL Executive of the Year in 2008 and 2010.
In his first draft with the Falcons, Dimitrov selected Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan with the third overall pick. From 2008 to 2012, the Falcons won five straight seasons, reached the playoffs four times, and won the NFC South title twice.
After the coaching change from Mike Smith to Dan Quinn, the Falcons advanced to Super Bowl LI until the end of the 2016 NFL season.
After leaving the Falcons, Dimitrov helped found SummerSports, a football analytics company, in January 2022. The company says its purpose is to provide “best-in-class quantitative analytics aimed at improving the accuracy of player acquisition and roster management in the NFL.”
Jets president Woody Johnson is leading the selection of a general manager and head coach. In addition to coordinating interviews, he hired Team 33 in a support role to help identify and vet candidates. Jeff Ulbrich and Phil Savage will serve as the team’s interim head coach and general manager, respectively.
