Stellantis announced its latest EV platform on Tuesday. The new STLA frame platform will initially support upcoming Jeep and Ram EV models. Stellantis says it aims to offer “best-in-class features,” including a range of up to 500 miles.
The STLA frame is designed for full-size trucks and SUVs as Stellantis looks to capture a larger share of the growing segment.
This will underpin all-electric (EV), extended range (REEV), hybrid (HEV), ICE, and hydrogen-powered models.
Ram launches first electric pickupRam 1500 REV, early next year. Built on a new frame platform, the electric truck will be offered in EV and REEV configurations.
Now, we’re learning a little more about what we can expect from the new platform that will power upcoming Jeep and Ram EV models.
Stellantis said the STLA frame platform is designed to offer “best-in-class features” including range, towing and payload. The platform is built to deliver a “class-leading” range of up to 500 miles (800 km), maximum towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds, and payload capacity of 2,700 pounds.
The wide center section houses a liquid-cooled battery pack that ranges from 159 kWh to over 200 kWh.

With a capacity of up to 350 kW, this platform can add 160 miles of range in 10 minutes. Vehicles with STLA frames also have bi-directional charging capabilities to power homes or feed back energy to the grid.
Vehicles built on this platform will range in length from 216 inches to 234 inches. By comparison, the 2025 Ram 1500 Crew Cab measures 232 inches.
Ram and Jeep EV models will be the first to be built on the new STLA frame platform. We know the Ram 1500 is based on this, but it’s expected to underpin future Jeep variants such as the Grand Wagoneer.
Jeep’s first global electric SUV, the Wagoneer S, is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships soon. The company said it expects deliveries to begin this fall, with prices starting at $71,995 and a range of more than 300 miles.
Jeep Wagoneer S is underpinned by the STLA Large Platform, one of four global EV platforms. Frame is the latest Stellantis platform to launch, following STLA Medium in July 2023 and STLA Large earlier this year.
Another Jeep EV, the Recon, is scheduled to debut later this year. Inspired by Jeep’s Wrangler, the Recon was recently spotted sporting a Ford Bronco-like design ahead of its debut.
The rugged SUV maker is also expected to release electric versions of its Gladiator pickup and Grand Cherokee models, which could be perfect candidates to be underpinned by a new frame platform.
UPDATE: Tavares confirms Ram’s first electric pickup truck won’t go on sale until the end of 2024. It is currently scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2025. Expect more details to be announced as we get closer to launch.
