The group of winners will be recognized at a ceremony on May 3 at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia.
Corrie was one of five media members voted on by the selection committee. He was joined by Brad Faith, a former sports anchor for the region’s ABC television affiliate WVEC. Woube Gebre, Norfolk State radio and television broadcaster, podcast host and announcer for ESPN+. Earl Herren, late golf writer and sports reporter for the Daily Press and Times Herald. Bill Loeffler is a sportswriter and former columnist for The Virginian-Pilot.
Colley is in his 50th year as the voice of the Tribe and has been the play-by-play broadcaster for W&M Athletics since 1982. He was named an honorary graduate of William & Mary and was formally honored on Charter Day in February. In 2012, he received the Tribe men’s basketball program’s Sixth Man Award for his hard work and dedication to the program. Cory is also a multiple-time finalist for the Bill Schwanke Award, which recognizes the National FCS Broadcaster of the Year.
In addition to his accomplishments as a broadcaster, father, and grandfather, Cory is also an award-winning real estate agent with Howard Hanna in Williamsburg. Jay Colley Team Leader has been selling real estate since 1988 and is in the top 3% of real estate agents. This is mainly due to the fact that his customers are loyal and keep coming back or referring business to him.
Established in July 2017, the Hampton Roads Sports Media Hall of Fame showcases the broadcast and print careers of professionals who have chosen a career in sports media. To be selected, each media member must have worked at each media organization in the greater Hampton Roads area for at least five years and be an active member of the community in which they live. The HRSMHOF Board of Directors announces award winners each January.
