The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles will conclude their series for the 2024 season on Sunday. Both teams have competed for the district title for most of the past decade, with the advantage going to Philadelphia this year. The Cowboys had a lackluster year as the NFC East hasn’t had back-to-back champions since 2004 and that trend continues.
Things were bad for Dallas before the injuries started piling up, but when the injuries piled up, an avalanche occurred. Surprisingly, the team improved in the second half of the year, winning four of its last five games despite not having top talent like QB Dak Prescott. Now, as the playoffs approach, the Eagles will be starting a quarterback for the first time in 2024 other than Jalen Hurts, who was sidelined last week due to a concussion he sustained.
Both teams have three players ruled out, including the Cowboys’ top target, WR CeeDee Lamb, who will be out for the year with a shoulder injury.
The Cowboys had another tough week at the corner position, having had the worst injury luck at the corner position in recent memory. Amani Oruwariye, who started in place of Trevon Diggs (IR – knee), is out and will also serve as backup to Keamon Hall.
It probably won’t get burned, but that will depend on Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore’s offense. Without Hurts’ rushing threat, Moore would have spent a week of practice changing his offensive plan to a traditional one with Kenny Pickett under center. Setting up both Hurts and Saquon Barkley in the run game has proven difficult for opposing defensive coordinators, but Mike Zimmer will only have one to deal with Sunday.
