EastIdahoNews.com has a very interesting announcement.
As part of our ongoing pursuit to provide the best and most reliable coverage possible throughout eastern Idaho, we have launched a sports section.
The East Idaho news team is committed to serving our community and listening to your requests for improved sports coverage.
As with the news, our intention is to be a one-stop destination for local sports news and information, but our sports department has a small staff, just like the newsroom was when EastIdahoNews.com launched in 2015. So while we will do our best to cover all sports Eastern Idaho has to offer, for now we will be focusing on the major sports of the season: football in the fall, basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring.
Similarly, we will cover collegiate, semi-pro and professional sports including Idaho State University, Idaho Falls Chukars, Gate City Glades and Idaho Falls Spud Kings, but our focus will be on high school sports.
Our newly launched sports department will be spearheaded by myself, Kalama Hines, and Alan Steele, a longtime sports reporter and former sports editor at the Idaho Falls Post Register and the Rexburg Standard-Journal.
Alan and I have nearly 40 years combined experience covering sports, and we are excited to bring our knowledge and expertise to the region’s sports coverage.
However, we are a small team and would appreciate any tips readers can provide.
If you know of a sport, club or sporting event you’d like others to know about, please email us at sports@eastidahonews.com.
As part of our coverage, we will be compiling scores from all sporting events held in eastern Idaho. We would appreciate your help. If you attend a sporting event, we would appreciate it if you could send us a photo of the final scores to the same email address.
The scoreboard can be found on the home screen at www.EastIdahoSports.com.
To better serve you, we’ve made it possible to search the site for articles by region or sport to find what interests you.
We’re also excited to announce two new features, with more to come:
The games of the week have already begun with two football games, Madison beating Bonneville and West Side beating Firth. Coming soon we will also be starting our Athlete of the Week feature, which will feature many exciting athletes who call Eastern Idaho home.
To enhance our coverage, we have partnered with other local media organizations to share our coverage when local athletes compete outside of Eastern Idaho. These partnerships also allow us to provide coverage for notable area teams such as Boise State University, Brigham Young University, and others.
Our goal is to become synonymous with sports coverage just as EastIdahoNews.com has become synonymous with news and information.
We are excited about this new endeavor and are excited to invite you along on the journey, so please join the conversation in our public Facebook group, “East Idaho News – Sports.”
