Billionaire Joy Alukkas added another Rolls-Royce to his luxury car collection earlier this year.
Joy Alukkas, chairman of jewellery group Joyalukkas, recently reminisced about his first Rolls-Royce purchase and the events that prompted him to buy the luxury car. Alukkas, 67, is India’s 50th richest person with a net worth of $4.4 billion.

It was in the year 2000 that a Malayali businessman visited a Rolls-Royce showroom in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A member of staff in the glittering showroom approached Alukas and asked him what he wanted.
“I said I wanted to see a Rolls-Royce car,” Alukkas said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.
Joy Alukkas recalled that the showroom staff then told her, “No, no. If you want to buy a car, go to a Mitsubishi showroom and you’ll get it there.”
“Then I thought… I felt ashamed of my behaviour and decided to buy the same car. And I did,” Alukkas said.
A school dropout, Aluckas went to the Middle East and opened his family’s first overseas store in Abu Dhabi in 1987. Aluckas then went out on his own and started his own brand, Joyalukkas, which now has 100 stores across India and 60 overseas, employing over 9,000 people. The group also owns the world’s largest gold jewellery retailer in Chennai.
In March this year, Joy Alukkas reportedly purchased a Rolls-Royce Cullinan worth Rs 6 crore.
