Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, denounced the hypocrisy of politicians attending President-elect Trump’s inauguration, after previously denouncing the Republican president as a “threat to democracy.”
“People are even more upset about performers and artists attending President Trump’s inauguration events, but saying Trump is a ‘threat to democracy’ and attending these events is… “I’m not at all angry at the politicians who claimed it wasn’t serious,” the progressive lawmaker declared in a post on X.
“The performers at least know they’re there to perform and get paid, but the politicians who have been ranting for four years and are now happy to be there and applaud are the ones who are angry. They lied to you and you. The criticism and anger should rightfully be directed at them,” she continued.

Omar suggested that performers should not be expected to be loyal to political parties.
“Also, people who are performers and artists should not be asked to be loyal to a political party, because that is what dictatorships do. They should be able to support political parties,” the lawmaker concluded.
Fox News Digital emailed the Trump-Vance transition team and the Trump-Vance inaugural committee on Monday, asking whether performers at the inauguration and related celebrations were being paid.
In response, a committee spokesperson said the committee did not pay for the performance.
