What are spontaneous planters and how do they work?
I wasn’t sure exactly how the target planter worked, so I did some research before purchasing. I learned that they aim to use a sub-irrigation system to deliver water directly to the roots of plants.
Planters come with shallow water bodies or reservoirs at the bottom of the planter. Here you can refill and drain water if necessary. This means that gardeners no longer have to guess how much or when they water their plants.
Instead, plant roots are taken directly or through the soil from the reservoir whenever nutrients are needed. This process is called “capillary action” or “wicking.” It’s like a sponge absorbs water. It’s pretty cool isn’t it? ! π€
So how do you use these self-refueling planters?
This may be general knowledge for some, but not for beginners like me. I wish the planter had some basic instructions and tips for success. They didn’t, so I browsed the Target Q&A section for helpful tips.
I followed the advice of target expert John on how to pot my plants again and refresh the water. My husband, an avid gardener, agreed that this was a good approach. π
To get started, John advises:
“If you don’t have a green thumb exactly, a self-water-resistant planter can be a big help. Set up your planter in the same way as a typical planter. First, water the soil thoroughly from above and fill the reservoir through the bottom harbor. The roots will absorb water from the soil if necessary.”
My plants, the golden pothos and snake plants worked well in a new pot, and the soil remained wet for nearly a week and a half. At that point, I used a watering can to pour additional water into the holes leading to the basin.
Aside from getting enough sun, that’s all I had to do to make these plants flourish!
Why does this make Target’s self-refueling planter special?
When I first processed the target planters, I was amazed at just .12 pounds how light they were. If I was being honest, I was worried that they might be of cheap quality. Luckily, it didn’t take long to understand why being lightweight was beneficial to me.
After putting in the soil, these self-refueling planters were still easy to move around. I couldn’t take them home indoors. πͺ
Plus, these polypropylene planters look just as chic as the heavier and more expensive ceramic garden planters I recently purchased. We love the smooth and curved style that looks clean and modern, and these planters add beauty to your home, patio or windowsill.
That said, there are some suggestions for improvement…
As mentioned before, some basic instructions and tips on how to use these self-watering pots were helpful. I also found it difficult to ruin the planter’s reservoir section. If you need to delete it, you need a second hand to help.
Luckily I can refill with water without removing the saucer at the bottom. I also liked the unique colour options, but some choices were only available for planters of certain sizes.
Nevertheless, they certainly don’t break the contract!
Overall, these popular target self-wearing planters are a complete victory in my book! π
Say goodbye to your black thumb! I just potted the plants and then put them in a pot, and after 3 weeks the soil is still wet and touched. Meanwhile, my husband watered the plants outdoors every day.
It’s not about doing my own horns or anything, but my self-esteem plants are as healthy and vibrant as our manually watered. For this reason alone, I’m selling in these planters!
My hip teammate, Chelsea, is also a fan!
“I have some of these target planters, and they are great! I have them in white, and if you have dirt on it, the plastic wipes clean easily. There is a self-resistant saucer on the bottom so you don’t have to worry about setting up a saucer. These would be so cute to pair with the plants as a gift for your child’s teacher!” – Chelsea
Even better, they are great value. They are lower than most valuable diets and make plant care much easier. Head straight to your target and get access to these affordable garden accessories. Talk about gardening on a budget! If you pick up some, let me know what you think!
Happy planting! π±
