Hundreds of women gather in Cincinnati for ‘Catch the Wave’ business conference
Updated: August 23, 2024, 4:28 PM EDT
Five are leading the way. Welcome back. Next week, hundreds of business-owning women will gather in downtown Cincinnati for the Catch the Wave Regional Conference. And this afternoon Frederica Singleton from the Ohio River Valley Women’s Business Enterprise Council will join me on the couch. And I think Tasha Wood, co-chair of the Catch the Wave conference, will join me. Thank you so much, everyone, for being here with me. Thank you so much for having me. So let’s get started. This is the 15th year of this conference, which is really exciting. Frederica, let’s start with that. Tell us a little bit about this event and why people keep coming back. Right. This event is a three-day conference. It’s going to be held at the Hilton Netherland Plaza downtown. It’s designed for women-owned businesses, whether they’re certified by our council or not, and it allows women-owned businesses to network with corporate sponsors like TASHA’s company. Why is this important? This is so important. Because women’s businesses make up over 40% of businesses in the United States, and women are the little engines that drive innovation in small businesses. We want to help women grow their businesses, get the resources they need, and keep others employed. Tasha, explain your role in all of this. Absolutely. As the co-chair of the Catch the Wave committee, I’ve been a member of the council for the past six years, and I thought, given my history with this organization, what better way to donate my time and expertise and put together a great 15th anniversary event? Is this for people who are just starting out in business? Is this for people who have only owned their own business for a year or two? Or is it for any woman-owned business? Can they get something out of it? This is from everyone. It’s for everyone. So whether you’re just starting out in business and in your first year, or you’re new, or you’re a veteran, you’re welcome to come in to explain a little bit. Frederica, you touched on that a little bit, feel free to do so. Tasha. But you were talking about 42% of small businesses in America being women-owned. So how does this event actually help everyone? Well, it helps everyone, because we’re helping to equip and empower them. So we’re giving them the resources they need to do their day-to-day job, but at the same time, we’re also looking for ways to contract with companies that can help them provide services on a larger scale. Tasha, tell us why you wanted to get involved and how it’s helped your company and other companies? Yes, absolutely. We know that we’re strengthening the supply chain. My company is committed to working with women-owned businesses because they provide solutions that drive innovation and create a competitive advantage. So when women-owned businesses succeed, our economy succeeds. Our communities succeed. And it benefits all of us. Yeah, I love that. And we’re all about girl power on our four o’clock show, as you know our viewers. So, if you’re watching the show and you want to be a part of this event next week, what do you need to do? Well, check out our website, WBECORE DOT ORG. Yes. We’re still open. There’s still a lot more to come. Please come and join us. Sounds good. Please come and join us. We really appreciate you being here on Friday afternoon. We appreciate Frederica and Tasha taking the time to be here and, of course, all that you do to support women-owned businesses in our community. Thank you so much for coming again, everyone. Our 15th Annual CATCH THE WAVE Conference will be August 16-28 at the Hilton Netherland Plaza in downtown Cincinnati. You can find out how to register on our website. It’s on the screen. And,
