Need a game for all ages?
This popular saran wrap ball game is sure to take over any holiday party this Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Participants essentially open fun prizes stacked inside a giant wrapped ball. There will be lots of laughter and silly fun. And the best part is that anyone can participate, regardless of age.
It’s sure to become a fun tradition that will liven up PAR-TAY!
This saran wrap ball game can be easily customized for each audience.
For example, if it’s a children’s party, you can include small toys and trinkets for children. For more mature groups, you can throw in gifts of money, lottery cards, and funny gags. If you’re getting the whole family involved, just make a ball with fun items that everyone will enjoy. I promise there’s nothing funnier than Aunt Karen getting rowdy over a $5 bill. π€£
Tip: Be sure to check out stores like Dollar Tree. If you have leftover Halloween candy, reuse it. You may already have small gifts, nail polish, travel-sized beauty items, and more in your gift closet at home.
**Eww** Too much plastic?! π π€―
The biggest caveat to this fun game is that a lot of not-so-eco-friendly plastic wrap is used to create the balls. Although sticky wrap is what makes this game difficult, there are other materials you can use instead. If you don’t want to use plastic wrap, you can reuse newspaper and tape, grocery bags, paper packaging filler, or painter’s tape instead for a more environmentally friendly option.
Another idea, especially when using a plastic wrap alternative, is to use oven mitts to create more difficulty when peeling the layers.

First, place your prize on a roll of plastic wrap or other wrapping paper and roll it over.
2
You can also wrap it first and then wrap other things around it so that the most expensive gift is in the middle.
3
It’s a little more difficult because you’re making several separate sheets rather than wrapping in a continuous roll.
How to play Saran Wrap Ball Game:
Grab a set of dice, a wrapped ball, and any friends or family members who want to join in!
Have everyone sit in a circle and decide which direction the ball will go and who will start. One person begins unwrapping the ball, and the person sitting next to him rolls the dice. Once you have rolled the doubles, it is your turn to untie the ball and the dice are passed to the next person. The key is to quickly roll doubles to get your turn, allowing players to keep the goods they opened. The last person with the ball can store a large prize in the center of the ball.
Try a fun variation of the Saran Wrap Ball Game!
Have participants wear mittens or oven mitts. Use press and seal instead of plastic wrap to wrap the balls. It will be difficult to unwrap! For younger children, use a timer instead of dice to ensure everyone gets a turn. Wrap the item in newspaper or other environmentally friendly packaging. Play Christmas music and start/stop music instead of dice. To make your gift more surprising, first wrap the item in paper. Try placing a blindfold around the person unwrapping the ball.

βWe played it last Christmas and put an ultrasound photo in the middle. We told the families there was a special prize in the middle. β β Kathryn.
“For the center, we use a combination of plastic wrap, foil, wrapping paper, and diapers. If we do one continuous piece, we have people who know to grab the edges and pull hard, and they win lots of prizes. I find that by using different media and layers, the ball lasts a little longer and everyone gets a few turns.” – Kay.
“We do this every year at our work Christmas party. It’s the highlight of the night. We have over 50 people, so we split into two teams. My boss uses paper, duct tape, electrical tape, and painter’s tape. , fishing line, and other various items are wrapped around pieces of paper and a competition is held between two teams to see who finishes first, and the winning team gets bragging rights by opening a piece of paper that says they won. People get special prizes!β β Sarah
“We do three, usually adults, teenagers, and young children. This year things are different, so we’ll do them separately for young children and teenagers. And one for adults to share. Stuff. We put small alcohol bottles in the adult bottles. It’s funny to watch the adults swap and replace them after it’s all said and done.
“I played this once at a company Christmas party and it was awesome! Since we were all adults, we each had to put a fuzzy sock on our hand to make it even more difficult (and hilarious).” So, use saran wrap It was much more difficult to remove. I had a good laugh! I work in a veterinary hospital and the room is full of people in scrubs and socks trying desperately to remove Saran wrap. It was amazing to see that.β β Chris
“I played a variation of this game at a Christmas party at work and it was a lot of fun. Instead of saran wrap, my boss used wrapped boxes of different sizes. The smallest was gift card sized. The biggest one was the size of a toaster box.The person who got a double had to put a Santa hat on his head and mittens on his hands before opening the gift. The person who opens the box wins the prize.β β V
