To celebrate 100 years of service, Tulsa Area United Way gives back to the community. Tau has partnered with the Tulsa Sports Commission to collect about 1,000 pieces of sports equipment and donate it to a nonprofit organization to confirm that children and families need to play.
What was the purpose of Tulsa’s Sports Goods Drive?
The Tulsa Area United Way has worked with the Tulsa Sports Commission to organize city-wide sports goods drives to gather both new and gentle use of sports goods.
Approximately 1,000 pieces of equipment have been donated to local nonprofit organizations to allow young athletes to access the gear they need to participate in the sport.
What types of equipment were collected during the drive?
The drive has gathered a variety of sports equipment, including baseball bats, soccer balls, and safety equipment.
These donations are intended to help young athletes have the right equipment to enjoy a variety of sports.
Which nonprofit organizations benefited from the donation?
The donations were distributed to three local nonprofit organizations, the KIPP Public Charter School, Palmer and the YMCA in Greater Tulsa.
Why is this donation important?
Joel Coaster of the Tulsa Sports Committee explained that track and field can be expensive and that not every family can afford the gear they need.
This drive offers high quality equipment that builds student trust and allows them to play sports without financial burden, even with some used items.
How will these contributions affect students at KIPP Public Charter School?
Terence Carr’s Kipp Tulsa’s soccer, track and soccer coach shared that the donation opens the door for students to try out new sports they have not played before.
Kerr says the donation allows students to become more involved in athletics as some families at Kipp Tulsa cannot afford expensive sports equipment.
The new gear will help Kipp Tulsa start a new sports program, and with access to the right equipment, you will get a “jump start” to develop these programs to the school.
Donations allow students to enjoy activities outside of regular research, allowing many to become “student athletes,” as Coach Kerr said.
Can people still donate sports goods?
Yes, anyone interested in donating sports goods can contact the Tulsa Area United Way and the Tulsa Sports Commission to find out how they can donate.
