Southern California’s colleges and universities are ranked among the top in the nation.
Half of the top 10 public universities in U.S. News & World Report’s latest college rankings list are in Southern California. U.S. News and World Report scores each school based on graduation rates, peer ratings, and faculty resources.
This year, several campuses achieved new milestones, including ranking in the top 10 for academic programs and maintaining high rankings year after year. Let’s take a look at the situation at universities in Southern California.
Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly Pomona ranks 3rd among top universities in the West and 2nd among top public universities in the West.
The university’s undergraduate engineering program was particularly impressive. All of them are in the top 10 in their respective categories such as civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
California State University Fullerton
California State University, Fullerton was ranked 69th among top public schools and 136th on the national list. This list includes public and private schools that offer a variety of undergraduate, master’s, and even doctoral programs.
The school’s academic programs, particularly its undergraduate engineering program, are highlighted in the report. The Titans ranked him 37th, and the civil engineering and computer engineering programs ranked in the top 10.
California State University San Bernardino
California State University San Bernardino was ranked 171st on the national university list. However, this school also just entered the top 100 public schools, coming in at number 92.
The university is also a top-performing school for social mobility, ranking 12th. This category recognizes universities that are making strides in supporting disadvantaged students academically.
California Institute of Technology
With a graduation rate of 79%, Caltech earned 6th place in the national university rankings. Many of its academic programs rank in the top 10, including programs in engineering and computer science.
chapman university
Private universities tied for 121st place in the national ranking, which includes both public and private universities. His graduation rate was 71% and he ranked 127th in the economics program.
claremont college
Pomona College and Claremont McKenna College both ranked in the top 10 liberal arts colleges in the country.
Pomona’s graduation rate is 71%, and Claremont McKenna’s graduation rate is slightly higher at 75%.
long beach state
The Sharks were ranked 52nd among top public schools and 109th among public and private universities.
The school’s four-year graduation rate is 38%. This campus is a top choice for social mobility, coming in tied for third place. It is also tied for 23rd place for best undergraduate engineering program.
University of California, Irvine
The University of California, Irvine has been ranked among the top 10 public schools for the past 10 years, and this year it was ranked No. 9. It also ranked 9th overall for social mobility, which supports disadvantaged students in their studies.
Additionally, UCI has been ranked 33rd on the national university list for the past three years.
University of California Riverside
With a four-year graduation rate of 65%, the university was ranked 36th among top public schools. Currently, approximately 22,646 students are enrolled in classes at this campus.
Highlanders stands out in the Social Mobility subcategory ranking. The University of California, Riverside strives to advance more students to graduation and ranks #1 in social mobility.
Nationally, it tied for 76th place.
University of California Los Angeles
The school has maintained its position as the number one public school in the nation for eight years in a row, achieving strong results.
UCLA also ranked No. 4 as the best college for veterans. The university says it will enroll 400 veterans and active-duty military members in the 2024-25 academic year.
UCLA tied for 15th on the list of all-American universities.
University of Southern California
Compared to rival schools, USC’s standings have fluctuated in recent years. Currently, it is tied for 27th place among national universities. USC’s four-year graduation rate is 81%.
In other categories, USC was ranked in the top 10 for Best Universities for Veterans Affairs and Business Programs, and No. 1 in Game/Simulation Development.
