LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track and field team posted several top-10 finishes against Division I competition at the Brant Tolsma Invitational Meet hosted by Liberty University.
The two-day event began on Friday afternoon, with Marko Kovacevic setting a new personal best in the men’s 3km, finishing fourth in 8:24.97. Cooper Hurst finished 9th with a performance of 8:30.59, just 1/100th off his PR. Georgie Lanham set a personal best time of 18 minutes, 58.04 seconds in the women’s 5k, placing 10th and completing the race for the second time in her collegiate indoor career.
In the pole vault, Alison Bobst finished third with a time of 11 minutes, 5¾ inches (3.50 meters), and Cameron Webber finished 10th with a time of 10 minutes, 5¾ inches (3.20 meters).
Micah Leach missed out on the top 10 in the men’s long jump, finishing 11th with a time of 21 minutes, 111/4 inches (6.69 meters). Julian Powell completed the podium in the men’s pole vault with a third-place mark of 13 minutes, 111/4 inches. (4.25 meters).
On Saturday, graduate student Josh Fretwell set a personal best in the men’s 800 meters, finishing ninth with a time of 1:57.25. The 800-meter performance marked Fretwell’s second PR in two indoor events this season. In the women’s 800 meters, Molly Silva finished in 7th place with a time of 2:18.56.
A trio of Hornets finished inside the top 10 in the boys’ 1,000 meters, a race usually reserved for high school track and field. Randy White was second (2:31.11), Carter Herklotz was fourth (2:34.03) and Chase Meters was ninth (2:40.60).
On the girls team, Hannah Edwards ran a 3:00.28 in the DI-only section and placed 7th in the 1k.
In the final event, the Lynchburg girls team placed 10th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:05.77. This result marks the sixth best time in the history of the indoor program for the 4×400 meter relay.
Next weekend, the indoor team will split its travel plans between Wittenberg College’s Steemer Showcase and Roanoke College’s Bastkreger Invitational.
