BOX SCORE LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Lynchburg women’s basketball team opened its conference schedule with a 66-47 loss to No. 7 Washington & Lee.
The Generals came out strong in the first 10 minutes of the game. Washington and Lee increased their lead to 23-9 on a series of 3-pointers by Riley Bryant. She finished the contest with 15 points, going 5 of 9 from beyond the arc.
In the second quarter, Lynchburg gradually gained ground with Bree Spainhour’s tough play in the paint. The junior forward finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Kate Littlejohn (11) and Spainhour were the two Hornets to reach double figures in scoring.
Nevertheless, the third quarter was all Washington & Lee. The Generals used their size to their advantage, outscoring Lynchburg 14-3 at halftime. Mary Schleusner dominated for Interior in the second half, with Turner scoring a game-high 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
The Hornets shot 26% from the field and the Generals were able to dominate the glass as well. Washington and Lee controlled the glass 52-30.
Lynchburg will remain at home for its next game against North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday, Dec. 1.
