Clemson University’s starting QB Cade Klubnik is having a great season with the Tigers, going 7-2. As a result, he was selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Maxwell Award, which is given annually to the college’s player of the year.
This year, the junior from Austin, Texas, has thrown for 2,275 yards, 24 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. He completes 63.1% of his passes.
Two other ACC players, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton, are also among the 16 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024.
This week, the Clemson baseball team announced its full 2025 schedule. This will be the 128th season for the Tigers, who will begin play at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, Texas from February 14th to 16th.
Clemson’s home opener will be against Presbyterian on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Shortly thereafter, the Tigers will face South Carolina in a one-game, one-game series at Clemson from Feb. 28 to March 2. A game at a neutral site and one game in South Carolina.
The Tigers also have interesting home series against Notre Dame (March 14-16), Wake Forest (March 21-23) and Duke University (May 9-11). The Tigers will host a total of five ACC series this season.
Last season, the Tigers went 44-16 overall and 20-10 in ACC play. They advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament, losing to Florida but falling one step short of making it to the College World Series. Now we know what the path will be like from the regular season back to the postseason.
Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown made his first career start Saturday against Virginia Tech. In that game, the true freshman had eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack to help his team get a coveted road win.
As a result, the Maxwell Football Club announced this week that Brown has been named the Sean Alexander Freshman Player of the Week.
Brown was a big part of a defense that held the Hokies to just 40 yards rushing and just 1.9 yards per carry. Of course, it was a welcome sight after the Tiger defense was crushed at home by Louisville the week before.
Playing in front of more than 8,000 fans in the program’s annual Education Day game, the Clemson women’s basketball team defeated Presbyterian College 81-33 on Monday. With this win, the Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season.
In the most attended Clemson women’s basketball game since 1990, the Tigers trailed Royal McQueen by 20 points, going 7-11 on field goals. Clemson University won for the second year in a row with a lead of 30 points or more.
After allowing the first bucket of the game, Clemson took the lead with a 3-pointer and the Tigers never trailed again. By halftime, the team had scored 41 points and showed explosive momentum.
Next, the Tigers will remain at home for a Palmetto Series matchup against South Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum.
