It was an autumn sports season that everyone in Warsaw will never forget.
It started with women’s golf in August and ended at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The girls golf team advanced to regionals as a team and Abby Peterson competed in the girls state golf finals in Carmel, finishing tied for seventh place.
The boys tennis season was highlighted by the No. 1 doubles team of Drew Reiser and Henry Norton, who reached the regional semifinals of the individual state tournament in Kokomo. Reiser/Norton went 14-3 on the season and won four postseason games.
Both cross country teams returned to the Terre Haute state finals.
The boys team finished second at the NLC, then won the sectional in North Manchester, followed by second place at the regional meet and 14th place at the state meet, advancing to the state finals for the fifth consecutive year. Jackson Gackenheimer won both the regional and regional races and finished 40th in Terre Haute.
The women’s team won the NLC Championship Tournament to earn a share of the conference championship and placed second in the division behind Columbia City. They placed fourth at the regional tournament in Huntington, qualifying for the state finals, where they finished in 22nd place.
The cheer team placed 4th in the timeout category at the state finals for the second year in a row. He competed in the local tournament for the first time and came in second place, earning him the right to participate in the national tournament.
Lady Tiger volleyball won its third consecutive sectional championship and third consecutive conference title this fall. The program will continue its 22-game winning streak in NLC matches until next August. They finished 28-7.
The women’s soccer team improved with a record of 12 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw, and won its first regional championship in seven years in October. They were in the conference race until the final game of the NLC season. Coach Clive Scott announced this week that he is retiring from coaching (Scott resigns as coach, retires ).
The boys soccer team went 14-3-3, winning both the district championship and the district semifinals in a shootout at Carroll, but lost to Harrison in the district final. They conceded just 10 goals all season and allowed just two goals to Harrison in four postseason games.
And the football team made school history by winning back-to-back weeks at home over No. 1 Concord, No. 2 Lafayette Jeff, and No. 3 Merrillville, advancing to the state football finals for the first time ever. The Tigers lost to No. 4 Decatur Central in the state championship game.
After the game, Tiger QB Drew Sullivan was named the 5A football Mental Attitude Award recipient.
The Tigers tied a school record with 10 wins.
