Jason Miller, senior adviser to President Donald Trump, said the president plans to “tend” tariffs during his speech to a joint Congressional session on Tuesday night.
“He’ll say he’ll lean on it, and he’s going to talk in January about how tariffs can actually close the trade deficit, when it comes to countries like Canada, Mexico and China.
Senior adviser to Trump said the president is also planning to “level set” with Americans on the state of the country.
“Usually this happens after the first year of the president taking office. But President Trump has already been president before, so he’ll come in, he’ll do a level set with the people of America, where we’re, what has happened in the last four years, what he’s done in the last four or five weeks. Then we haven’t achieved what we haven’t done yet,” Miller said.
Details of the president’s speech: Trump will also discuss what will happen next on his agenda, Miller said.
“We must complete this tax bill. I think we can hear the President talking tonight about one big beautiful bill and keep taxes low and even lower for Americans. We also need to make sure these border corrections are permanent,” Miller said.
He continued. “And when we want to see ahead, we’ve turned to the future, we’ve made a Marshall plan for energy, and we’re going to win AI wars with China, etc. So that’s a bit of where we’re, what we’ve achieved, and what we’re trying to do.
In a pause in aid to Ukraine, Miller said Trump was offensive to ensure Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky agreed to a deal to stop the war.
“President Trump is the only person, the only person talking about stopping the murders, sometimes the leader can use carrots and sometimes the sticks,” Miller said. “And in this case, I think President Trump is using 2 x 4 to score his points on President Zelensky. That means President Trump wants to stop the murder. Zelensky has to go back to the table. He has to take this seriously.”
