Senior Halekeller was playing games with three seconds left at Meadowdale High School in the district tournament quarterfinals on Friday night as the seventh-seeded Monroe Bearcats confused the second-seeded Meadowdale Maverick 50-49 He won the layup.
Keller finished the game with 17 points and nine rebounds, while twin sister Hope Keller added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Cascadia Yates led all scorers with 19 points.
Meadowdale was also led by several families. Cousins Lexi Zaldis (12) and Mia Brockmeyer (11) were two high scorers for the Mavericks.
Monroe advances to the semi-final round of the tournament. There, the Bearcats will face Second Seed Stanwood at Marysville Pillchuk High School on Tuesday at 5pm.
Meadowdale moves to the comfort brackets of the double elimination tournament. The Mavericks will hold their sixth seed Mount Vernon in the loser’s match at 7pm Tuesday.
