WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – We are continuing our Hometown Pride Tour in Henrietta for this year’s 93rd Clay County Pioneer Reunion.
Today we look at how local businesses are helping to boost the economy.
The business owners we spoke to say they take pride in caring for the community that supports their livelihoods.
In addition to taking pride in the Alumni Rodeo, the Henrietta community takes great pride in the product they offer.
Wade Bryant, owner of Carr Feed, said shopping local means money stays in the city and not with faceless corporations.
“I think it’s absolutely important that these small businesses understand their role in the community and rotate that role and funnel money into these organizations and help kids and help other organizations in the community, so that creates a good balance in the community,” Bryant said.
Many businesses in Henrietta have contributed to the economy for generations, including Carr Feed, which has been in business for four generations.
“We’re trying to make a good product, a fair product and a fair price so that our local producers can be successful financially. We need them to be here next year and support us,” Bryant said.
Henrietta Pharmacy technicians Tina Smith and Amanda Hancock said area residents who work at these local businesses say their customers have become like family.
“I’ve worked here for 50 years. These are my teachers at school, people I graduated with, and now my son’s kids are here, they graduated with him. They’re family, they’re friends,” said Tina Smith, a pharmacy technician from Henrietta.
“We try to put the customer first and the town first. At the end of the day, it’s not about us, it’s about the people who come into the store,” Amanda Handcock said.
Bryant added that working for a small business in Henrietta means making sure there’s a connection with every purchase.
“Working with all of those people, our loyal employees, our working employees, all the way to our customers that have been with us for decades. Helping to provide solutions for them. And the fact that every day is a new day when you’re running a business means you have to be flexible and shift and relocate as needed because you never know what’s going to happen next,” Bryant said.
