Healthcare stocks underperformed relative to the rest of the market in 2023, with companies missing profit targets. Some CEOs lost their bonuses.
But the healthcare giant still had $3.5 billion in revenue last year and $4 billion in 2022. The average CEO earned $11 million, and the median was $4.1 million. These numbers compare to an average of $13 million and a median of $4.3 million in 2022.
Even in a down year, the median income for healthcare CEOs was 51 times the median American household income in 2023 (about $81,000). The heads of pharmaceutical and medical device companies remained at the top because their patented products brought them the most profits. .
