Jake Paul may very well bid farewell to his boxing endeavors when he steps into the squared circle with the ferocious Mike Tyson. Or will he? In the days leading up to the fight, concerns began to grow among martial arts fans and experts, who began to question the lack of training footage from the “Iron Mike” camp. UFC veteran Chel Sonnen believes there is something wrong with Tyson.
Mike Tyson isn’t as low-profile as some might think, as he’s shared some of his training for his return to boxing on Netflix. However, those videos only showed “Iron Mike” hitting the pads and doing some cardio, which raised questions among fans. But Chel Sonnen isn’t convinced, and believes Tyson doesn’t even have a team to practice with, considering there’s only a week left before the Jake Paul fight.
Before the fight was rescheduled, videos of Mike Tyson training with coach Rafael Cordeiro were routinely played. In fact, Cordeiro held his head high when he declared, “Mike will step into the ring as the Mike Tyson he once was…a first round KO.” This is different than now, when Chel Sonnen feels completely disillusioned. Sonnen fueled speculation for 10 minutes on his YouTube channel Wednesday.

Anticipation for the rescheduled Nov. 15 fight is higher than ever, and Sonnen believes Netflix has done a pretty good job promoting the fight so far. But it could be better. “This fight is becoming something. All I offer is things that could be better. The really important factors…we either hear from our training partners or we don’t. The problem with the “don’ts” is that whenever you put on an event like this, there are plenty of reasons why promoters go out of business. ”
The former mixed martial artist continued, citing the UFC as an example of how something is at stake in every fight. The number one rule is that you must actively try to win. These athletes are here to perform and entertain…but you’ll never hear that from a boxing promoter. ”
When this match was first announced, most fans weren’t too sure it was a real match considering the hefty paycheck that came with it. However, as Sonnen suggested, the fight “started to turn into something” once Netflix announced it would be a professional fight. But it’s silence on Tyson’s part that could ultimately hurt Netflix.
“If Mike Tyson doesn’t have a single trainer who goes to the media and says, ‘I work with him.'” As we understand it, (he has) There is no out partner and no gym with set hours. We don’t even work out as a team. He has a studio with heavy luggage. That could be wrong. In our understanding, no one is speaking out, so I tell you. ”
Sonnen also issued a warning to promoters who tend to overlook these types of issues. Mike Tyson, 47, says people may lose interest in such fights in the future if YouTuber-turned-boxer Mike Tyson is easily dispatched. “If Tyson goes out there and gets beaten by Jake, a lot of fans are going to be very upset the next time you try to rant,” Sonnen added. According to him, it’s better to set expectations than to go into a fight expecting something great (and maybe not getting it).
“If you could show us where he’s training…and by the way, even if he didn’t look good, you’d be much better. We’d love to see him get stomped on.” We hope he doesn’t. It’s about a week until Tyson and Paul meet inside the squared circle, but it’s not too late. “They need to put cameras in there. They need to get someone from Mike that we know to vouch for them.”
But Mike Tyson recently raised eyebrows by sharing another quick excerpt from a training session. He wowed fans with his fierceness and, most importantly, his insane punching power.
