U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has raised well over double the amount from donors that former President Donald Trump raised from contributions in August, her campaign said Friday, raising $361 million from nearly 3 million donors in her first month as a candidate.
The Trump campaign said Wednesday that Trump had raised $130 million during the same period. The Harris campaign said it had $404 million on hand for a last-minute push before Election Day — $109 million more than the Trump campaign announced in late August.
Harris’ vast cash reserves will fund a $370 million paid media effort in the final two months of the campaign, as well as pay for more than 2,000 field staffers in more than 310 offices in battleground states.
Harris’ fundraising follows $310 million she raised in July, most of which came after she took over the campaign after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race that month. The ticket swap helped Democrats reverse a fundraising advantage Trump had built over the past few months, when voter doubts about Biden’s eligibility for reelection had dampened enthusiasm from donors and voters.
“Vice President Harris’ candidacy has quickly galvanized a historic, broad and diverse coalition with the passion, energy and grit to win a close election,” Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. “As we enter the final stages of the election, we are ensuring that every penny of our hard-earned money is spent on winning the support of voters who will decide the outcome of this election.”
The numbers released by the campaigns do not include full Federal Election Commission filings, which will be released later this month. The campaign totals include fundraising by their respective national parties and affiliated committees.
